Enfield 1sts power past Enfield 2nds

Enfield 1sts remain favourites for the Winter League Division Three title after a commanding 16-5 (5-0, 5-3, 5-1, 1-1) victory over Enfield 2nds at Southgate on Wednesday.

The “Great Enfield Derby” win was their fourth in a row and the game was also a cause for celebration as more than 23 Enfield players were on show in front of a huge bumper crowd.

As the match got underway, it was GB junior Charlie Briers who started the scoring for Enfield 1sts, with a finely executed turn and finish from 2m.

Enfield 2nds struggled with Briers throughout the first quarter, as he quickly completed his hat-trick to make the score 3-0 after just three minutes of play.

Alex Waller and Tony Matthews also found the net to give the 1st team a 5-0 lead at the end of the first.

Chris Dunn opened Enfield 2nds’ account in the second quarter with a trademark back-shot, before Sina Dehnadi and Nikos Chamalidis both hit the target.

But it was the 1sts who again came out on top, with Briers adding two more from 2m, Rob Threadgold finishing off a spectacular counter attack and Richard Waller slamming home twice to make it 10-3 at the half.

In the third, Briers proved the danger man yet again with two more powerful strikes from the pit.

Andy Rollé also hammered in twice from close range and Rob Lucas popped up with a wonder goal after a strong drive down the right.

John Jackson finished off a fine breakaway for Enfield 2nds, but they were left with a mountain to climb as they trailed 15-4 at the end of the third.

The final period was a more even affair, with the 2nd team showing some strong resilience.

Nikos Chamalidis added his second of the night, before Lucas completed the scoring to make the final result 16-5.
