Enfield 1sts triumph at Hornchurch

Enfield 1st team recorded a commanding 12-4 (2-1, 6-0, 3-2, 1-1) victory away at Hornchurch on Thursday to maintain their 100% winning start to their London Water Polo Winter League campaign.

Despite conceding an early breakaway goal, Rob Lucas and Rob Threadgold were on target to ensure Enfield were 2-1 ahead at the end of the first.

In the second, Enfield dominated throughout as Tony Matthews, Charlie Briers, Martin Ilievski and Chris Waller all found the net.

Stand-in keeper Andy Rollé saved a penalty and Lucas fired in another two well-worked goals to make the score 8-1 at the halfway mark.

Enfield eased up in the third, but still managed to extend their lead to 11-3 thanks to a brace from Briers and a superb counter attack that was expertly finished off by Craig Snowdon.

In the final quarter, Rollé made another fine penalty save before Lucas slammed home his fourth of the night to finish the scoring at 12-4.

The impressive win in Essex means Enfield 1sts have won all three of their London Water Polo Winter League fixtures so far – and all away from home – 12-4 at Hornchurch, 11-7 at Beckenham and 12-7 at Guildford.

Enfield 1sts next match is at home to Hornchurch on Wednesday, 18 February – 9pm start at Southgate Leisure Centre.
