GB U-17 Boys v Switzerland: REPORT

Great Britain Under-17s finished off a fine Friday with a well-worked 12-1 victory over Switzerland.

The result was the perfect follow-up to their 53-0 demolition of Latvia this morning, and means they head into tomorrow’s game against Malta knowing a win will put them in touching distance of a top two finish and a place in this summer’s European Games in Baku.

In a low-scoring first quarter, it was GB who got the better of the Swiss, with Kamz Powell and Scott Wilson both on target to give GB a 2-0 lead at the break.

The second quarter then remained deadlocked until Ben Tinkler-Davies scored the only goal of the period to make it 3-0 at half-time

With the Swiss tiring, GB were able to step it up a gear in the third and it was no surprise that the goals began to flow.

Hamish Hudson hammered home twice, while Ben Tinkler-Davies and Kamz Powell both scored as GB began to dominate and made it 7-1 at the end of the third.

Like earlier in the day, GB were in no mood to ease up and coach Craig Figes would have been pleased to see his team fire in five more goals in the final period.

Hamish Hudson completed his hat-trick, Ben Riding scored twice and Sam Alberici and Ashley Castle also got on the scoresheet before the game ended 12-1.

Great Britain, despite playing one more game, have six points and are level with Germany and Malta, who they face in their final must-win match tomorrow (Saturday, 18:15 UK time).
