Enfield 2nds lose out to Hornchurch

Enfield 2nds suffered a narrow 13-12 (4-2, 3-4, 4-3, 2-3) defeat away to Hornchurch on Thursday night.

After claiming the points on Wednesday against Guildford, Enfield 2nds were looking for their second Winter League victory, but it wasn’t to be.

The hosts opened up a healthy 4-2 lead in the first quarter, with Martin Ilievski and Nikos Chamalidis the scorers for the visitors.

Enfield responded brightly in the second and Greek wonderkid Nikos Chamalidis was on fine form as he added two more to complete his hat-trick.

Alex Waller and Chris Waller were also on target to make the score 7-6 to Hornchurch at half-time.

Enfield continued to fight, but the superior strength of the east Londoners was evident as they converted four well-taken chances.

Nikos Chamalidis was proving a handful though as he added two more and his brother Costas also got on the scoresheet to make it 11-9 at the end of the third.

Trailing by two, Enfield caused a scare in the final quarter as Nikos Chamalidis scored his sixth and seventh of the night, with debutant Max Roberts finding the net as well.

However, it wasn’t to be as Hornchurch fired home two of their own, which was enough to give them a 13-12 triumph.

Enfield 2nds next game in the London Water Polo Winter League is against Enfield 1sts at Southgate on March 25th, 9pm start.
