Enfield storm into cup semi-finals

Enfield stormed into the semi-finals of the London League Referees Cup on Wednesday with a 28-5 (4-0, 9-2, 9-2, 6-1) victory over Blue Marlin at Southgate.

The visitors arrived with an eight-goal handicap, but that was soon eliminated after a first-half Enfield blitz.

After returning from their Macedonia tour, Enfield looked sharp throughout and it was Rob Lucas who set the tone with a well-executed hat-trick in the first quarter, while Alex Waller was also on target to cut Blue Marlin’s lead firmly in two.

Enfield continued to dominate in the second quarter, with Andy Rollé firing in a hat-trick, before Lucas added another to make the handicap scores level.

Andy Poore edged Enfield in front with an Exocet of a shot and Richard Waller then hit the net twice.

Blue Marlin responded with a couple of lobs, but it was A Waller who had the final say of the half with two screamers that sailed into the top corner to make it 13-2.

In the third, there was no stopping the one-way traffic as Enfield again surged forward at every opportunity.

Lucas hammered home another two, R Waller three, Rollé two and A Waller two to put the result way beyond doubt at 22-4 going into the final quarter.

John Whittaker (2), Tony Matthews, Rollé (2) and A Waller then extended the lead in the fourth to make it a comprehensive 28-5 triumph on the night.

Enfield will now face either Ealing Mens 2nds, Watford 1sts, Beckenham 1sts, Sutton & Cheam 1sts, Ealing 1sts or Croydon 2nds in the semi-finals.
